The area where FDR Park now lies, formerly known as “The Neck,” from Oregon Avenue to the Navy Yard, was occupied heavily by Swedes in the late 1600s.

Founded in 1926, the American Swedish Historical Museum in South Philadelphia is the oldest Swedish museum in the United States. The Museum’s 20,000 square foot interior is currently divided into twelve exhibition galleries, a reference library, curatorial storage and archives, offices, a museum store, a large dining room/conference area, and a kitchen. The Museum is available to rent for wedding receptions, corporate meetings, and parties.

The museum is located toward the front of the park facing Pattison Avenue and has a parking lot out front.
